Description

Sharing its borders with Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram Assam is a beautiful state known as the “Gateway to the North East. Assam is synonymous with Tea gardens, but that’s not all what the state has to offer. Assam is blessed with spectacular waterfalls, rivers, wildlife sanctuary, ancient temples that attract tourists from all over the world. The radiant Brahmaputra river flowing from Tibet meanders from Assam and augments the beauty of the region. With its breathtaking natural surroundings drenched in mystic tranquility and gripping panorama, Assam paves the way for a congenial and unforgettable tour for the travelers.

Day 1

Arrive Kolkata

On arrival you will be met our representative who will welcoe you and transfer you to your hotel. He will assist you in the check in formalities and explain the itinerary to you. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2

In Kolkata

Post breakfast you will embark on a city sight tour of the City of Joy, Kolkata, once the capital city of the Britishers. Kolkata is culturally a vibrant city with its blend of British and Indian architecture. You will Mother’s House headquarters of the International religious congregation of the Missionaries of Charity which has been a home to Mother Teresa and her sisters since 1955, Marble Palace – a nineteenth century palatial mansion built in the Neo classical architecture style which houses many western sculptures, Victorian furniture, paintings by European and Indian artists and many varied artefacts. Then on to Victoria Memorial a large white marble building built between 1906 and 1921 dedicated to Queen Victoria now converted to a museum. Admire the splendid sculptures on the dome. Visit Parasnath Jain Temple built by Ray Badridas Bahadur in 1867which is one of the most revered shrines of the Jains in Kolkata known for its enthralling beauty with a scenic beautiful garden decorated with glass mosaics and silver European styled statues, and St. Paul’s Cathedral, Riverside (Princep Ghat), Jorashankho Thakur Bari (abode of the Nobel Laurate Rabindranath Tagore).
Drive Pass : General Post Office, Shaheed Minar, Eden Gardens, Akashvani Bhawan, Writers’ Building, Raj Bhawan, High Court, Maidan, Town Hall, Race Course, Lal Dighi Street, Andrews Church.
Drive over : Howrah Bridge or Vidyasagar Setu. Return to the Hotel.
Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3

Kolkata – Guwahati – Shillong (By air)(100 kms 3 hours)

Today after breakfast you will check out of your hotel to be transferred to the airport to connect your flight to Guwahati. Guwahati is a sprawling city beside the River Brahmaputra famous for its hilltop Kamakhya Temple and ancient Hindu Shrines and is thus popular as “City of Temples”. On arrival at the airport you will be met by our representative who will give you a traditional welcome. Soon after, you will proceed to Shillong, which is a hill station and the capital of Meghalaya and known as “Scotland of the East” by road. You will visit the Umiam Lake – the biggest artificial lake in the state created by damning the Umium River in the 1960s. The lake is known for water sports and adventure facilities. You can take a boat ride on the lake. Also visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous culture offering an exclusive display of the heritage and varied culture of entire North East. See the Ward Lake – a horseshoe shaped lake surrounded by lush green gardens, and the Butterfly Museum. Check into your hotel. Overnight at the Hotel

Day 4

Shillong – Cherapunjee – Shillong (65 kms 3 Hours)

This morning have your breakfast and get ready for an excursion to Cherapunjee, a altitude town in Meghalaya known for its living root bridges made from rubber trees. Cherapunjee has multiple times held the record for the highest rainfall in the world. Enroute you will visit Shillong Peak. On arrival at Cherapunjee visit the Elephant Waterfalls, a multi tiered waterfall in the picturesque surrounds with an easy walking trail, The Nohkalikai Falls, which is the tallest plunge waterfall in India falling from a height of 1115 ft. You will thereafter visit the Seven Sister Falls - a seven segmented waterfall which is one of the highest in India falling over limestone cliffs in a beautiful surroundings. On your way back you will stop to visit Mawsmai Caves, rugged limestone cave which has an amazing entrance with dark magical mystery inside that will leave you fascinated. Return to Hotelf and overnight at the Hotel.

Day 5

Shillong - Mawlynnong-Shillong (90 kms 2 hours)

Today after breakfast you will drive to Mawlynnong Village known as the cleanest village in Asia and God’s Own Garden. You will see wooden houses with colourful gardens as you walk along . On arrival visit the Living Root Bridge, a natural bridge formed with the roots of the trees. To see this magnificent bridge you need to hike for a while. Then visit the Balancing Rock, a nature’s wonder, where a small stone holds a big rock by balancing it and this structure has remained in the same postion for ages, and the Tree House (Watch Tower) made by the local people of the village which offers stunning view of the plains of the neighbouring country of Bangladesh Leave this fairy tale village and Return to your hotel in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6

Shillong – Kaziranga National Park ( 250 kms 5.5 hours approx)

Post your breakfast you will proceed to Kaziranga National Park – a UNESCO World heritage site, spread across the floodplains of the Brahmaputra river. Its forests, wetlands and grasslands are home to tigers, elephants and the world’s largest population of the one horned rhino. Ganges River Dolphins swim in the park’s waters. Many rare species of birds like gray pelicans can be found here. On arrival check into the resort. You can later explore the serene surroundings. Overnight at the resort.

Day 7

Kaziranga

Today early morning proceed for jeep safari accompanied by a naturalist to the eastern part of the forest which is best for birding. Crested serpent eagle is common while Palla’s eagle and Grey Headed Fishing eagle is frequently seen. Others include Adjutant Stork, Bar Headed Geese, Whistling Teel, Pelicans, etc. If you are lucky you can spot the endangered Bengal Floricans. Return to your hotel and have your breakfast. Post Lunch you will proceed again on a Jeep safari on the central or western part to explore the wildlife. Have a close encounter with the One horned rhino, Wild Buffalo, Swamp Deer, Python and pre historic looking monitor lizard. Have a look around at the various species of flora and fauna and experience a thrilling adventure in the Park. Return to the Hotel and overnight.

Day 8

Kaziranga – Guwahati (215 kms 6 hours)

This morning have your breakfast and check out of the resort to proceed to Guwahati. On your arrival at Guwahati you will visit the Kamakhya Temple a Hindu Temple dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya and is one of the oldest of 51 Shaktipithas. Situated on a hill it is the main temple in the complex of many temples. Its an important pilgrimage destination expecially for tantric worshippers. Then take Boat ride on the Brahmaputra river to reach Umananda Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated on the Peacock island in the middle of the river. This island is known to be the smallest island in the world. Later you will check into your hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9

Guwahati – Kolkata (by air)

Have your breakfast and check out of your hotel. You will be transferred to the airport to connect flight to Kolkata. On arrival at Kolkata airport you will be met by our representative who will meet you and assist you in the airport to connect your flight for your onward destination.
If you have time you can visit some local markets for shopping of souvenirs and silk saris and fabrics and other artefacts. And later on transfer to the airport for connecting your flight to your onward destination or back home with fond memories
